Though mineral makeup leader Bare Escentuals left behind a loose, powdery trail on its way to cosmetics glory, the San Francisco-based company is now unveiling its most unexpected launch to date: a collection of pressed shadows packaged in sleek, flip-top compacts. The newly launched bareMinerals READY collection incorporates fifteen eye shadow duos (cheekily dubbed 2.0) and four quads (dubbed 4.0 in keeping with the digital overtones of the monikers). Created through a new, groundbreaking cold-pressed method, the eye shadows in these palettes feature Bare Escentuals’ proprietary SeaNutritive Complex, a blend of positively-charged sea minerals derived from nutrient-packed seaweed and algae, along with cold-pressed, hydrating borage oil, skin-firming caffeine, soothing cucumber, and rice extract, which protects skin from chapping or scafing.
These paraben-, sulfate-, and phtalate-free solid eye shadows are as richly pigmented as their predecessors, but they’re substantially more convenient as they minimize potential messiness. Those of us who have tapped, swirled and buffed all these years have quietly griped about the fine-grained veil coating our vanity tables, desks, bathroom counters, and the inside of our makeup bags, so this development merits a standing ovation — particularly since the new-and-improved packaging didn’t compromise the integrity or quality of the cosmetics.
Unlike other eye shadows, these feel a bit damp and almost creamy, but they glide onto lids with the ease of powder, making them ideal for layering and blending. And unlike loose pigments, these are less likely to sprinkle off your eye shadow brush and onto your cheeks or nose.
The bareMinerals READY Eyeshadow 2.0 ($20 at BareEscentuals.com and Sephora.com) comes in such spell-binding color combinations as: The Vision, which includes a pale sea mist blue with green undertones and a deep lagoon-like blue green shade; The Grand Finale, which combines a sparkly gold with a deep cobalt blue; The Showstopper (pictured after the jump), a light periwinkle blue with lavender undertones married with a silvery deep purple; and The Scenic Route (also shown after the jump), which incorporates a golden cream shade and an antique gold with olive and sage undertones. The bareMinerals READY 4.0 Eyeshadow ($30 at BareEscentuals.com and Sephora.com) offerings, meanwhile, include such standouts as The Elements, which includes a wintry, taupe-ish ecru, an earthy coppery rust, a zesty light teal, and a breezy, more maritime teal blue.
