An “Element” Of Surprise — Write A New Style Equation With The TOMS Chemistry Print Canvas Classics

Believe it or not, I look back at the Bunsen burners, beakers, test tube racks, and Erlenmeyer flasks of my AP Chemistry days fondly. Sure, I came close to singing my eyebrows a few times (safety goggles are key, folks!), but I loved the hands-on nature of our lab experiments, how we could observe, first-hand, as different elements triggered fascinating reactions. I was no Marie Curie, of course, but I could grasp the fascination with this sort of scientific research — certainly more so than I could comprehend a similar interest in, say, physics. If, like me, you took pride in your comprehensive knowledge of the periodic table, you’ll get a kick out of these new TOMS canvas shoes, which hit TOMS.com just in time for back-to-school season.

The TOMS Chemistry Print Canvas Women’s Classics ($55 at TOMS stores and TOMS.com) feature canvas uppers designed to resemble graphing paper, with fine blue lines creating a grid design, and juxtaposed over these lines are scribbled physics equations (such as “E=MC2) and doodles of triangle rulers, DNA strands, atomic energy symbols, incandescent lightbulbs (a reference to Thomas Edison’s ground-breaking invention), and lab tools like test tubes, beakers, and cylindrical flasks. The result is playfully nerdy,  fun way to show off that you’re proud to be a chic geek (I certainly am!). Lest we forget, one of the best TV shoes in recent history, Breaking Bad, revolved around a chemistry teacher who went rogue. Science, you see, is totally badass.

Middle school, high school, and college girls can add these to their footwear syllabus for the fall semester, while those of us who have been graduates for a while can rock these while indulging in a healthy dose of nostalgia.

Turns out TOMS has the art of wearable and funky shoes down to a science!
