A Tribe Called Fashion Quest — A Global Approach To Style

Bing Bang Zuni Charm Bracelet, $57.80. Available at BingBangNYC.com
This season, fashion and jewelry designers are functioning as tour guides, leading us through a journey spanning the entire globe. First stop: a safari through Kenya and Tanzania. To reference the wild, exotic animals in these destinations, they’ve offered us an array of booties, blazers, dresses, scarves, hats and cuffs with zebra stripes, cheetah and leopard spots, and panther silhouettes.
Next, they’re guiding us through Ghana, threading colorful glass beads like those found in Odumase Krabe through metal chains to create stunning statement necklaces and hand-sewing them onto purses, belts, and hemlines. Our final destination in Africa: Egypt, where we’ll experience the grandness of the pyramids and reference ancient hieroglyphics via elaborate triangular shapes.
After our voyage through Africa, we’re embarking on a visual trip to Sri Lanka and India. And, while we might not be physically staring at snake charmers on city sidewalks, we can be enticed by the handbags and jewelry pieces featuring undulating snakes matched with raw stones — all rife with mystery. Then, we’re heading to Tibet, where we’ll walk devoutly into Buddhist temples via the incorporation of prayer beads and age-old amulets in jewelry designs.
Lastly, we’re venturing to South America, visiting the Quechua people in Peru and Bolivia, and then heading to Mexico to learn about Aztec-inspired textiles and patterns.
Below, you’ll find some of our favorite “stops” on this worldwide journey — studded leopard print heels, purple handbags adorned with exotic snakeskin and lush ostrich feathers, and cuffs engraved with elegant cheetahs in mid-stride, among many other tribal-flavored wares. No passport necessary for this global quest!
