A Lasting Style Legacy — New Black Halo Jackie O Ten Year Anniversary Collection
Back in 1973, Diane Von Furstenberg revolutionized the fashion landscape by introducing the world to her unique take on the wrap dress. In 2007, Black Halo accomplished a similar feat with the launch of the “Jackie O” dress, featuring a form-fitting silhouette replete with a knee-length pencil skirt, an asymmetrical and draped neckline, capped sleeps, and a banded waist. Almost overnight, the dress became a sensation, with Blake Lively and Kim Kardashian showing off their figures in sleek white versions of the style, Kelly Ripa and Jenny McCarthy donning the dress in classic black, and Katherine Heigl flaunting a cobalt option. Given how ubiquitous the dress became, it could have easily fallen out of favor in the years that followed, but Black Halo’s “Jackie O” design has retained its relevance — likely because of the timeless nature of the silhouette and to the brand’s efforts to reinvent the style via new colorways, textures, lengths, and embellishments.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Black Halo’s “Jackie O” dress, Creative Director Laurel Berman unveiled a limited-edition capsule collection yesterday that pays homage to the iconic design. Available at BlackHalo.com, the Jackie O Ten Year Anniversary Collection consists of pieces in shades of white, ivory, and cream — all featuring the asymmetrical neckline made instantly recognizable by the original Jackie O dress.
The collection includes new takes on the classic Jackie O dress — including the Infinite Bias Jackie O Dress shown above at top ($375 at BlackHalo.com), which features raised stripes running horizontally along the torso, then diagonally along the skirt, all with raw edges that create a textural contrast; and the Bonded Mesh Jackie O Dress pictured last above ($390 at BlackHalo.com), which features a breathable, modern, and sporty netted overlay over an opaque white lining.
For those who want the Jackie O dress to have a hint of Marilyn’s playfulness, there’s the Sequined Jackie O Romper ($375 at BlackHalo.com), which features the asymmetrical necklines and tab sleeves that distinguish the Jackie O dress but replaces the knee-length pencil skirt with tailored shorts for a one-piece jumper that’s coquettish yet sophisticated. The sequined paillettes covering the fabric, meanwhile, give the piece plenty of shine.
Another standout piece in the collection is the Heirloom Lace Jackie O Jumpsuit ($690 at BlackHalo.com), which taps into the glamorous but free-spirited energy of the jumpsuits worn in the 1970s by such boldface names as Lauren Bacall, Farrah Fawcett, Cher and Bianca Jagger. The impeccably tailored jumpsuit is crafted out of a re-embroidered guipure heirloom lace that has a crochet-esque quality that emphasizes its upscale Boho vibe.
Those who want a gala-ready version of the Jackie O, meanwhile, can prepare to make an entrance in the Black Halo Sequined Jackie O Gown ($650 at BlackHalo.com), a slinky, floor-length number with a concealed adjustable zipper along one side that allows wearers to customize the length of their slit to show as much leg as they see fit!
Each piece serves to prove the infinite potential of the Jackie O dress, celebrating the impact of the original dress while illustrating its evolution and hinting at the many iterations we can anticipate to see in the future. And, like the woman who inspired the collection’s name, each design is impeccably tailored, polished, and poised.
