Can you bottle up the merriment we associate with rays of sunshine, the playful tickle of an ocean mist, the scent of white sand, the relaxing breeze of a palm tree leaf swaying in the wind? Apparently, you can because the new Urban Decay Go Naked Perfume Oil ($24; available at UrbanDecay.com starting June 7th) will conjure up all these images and sensations. This was, of course, the desired goal: to create a scent that captured the “essence of summer.”

The concentrated perfume oil, which is packaged in a travel-friendly 0.16 fl. oz. bottle with a rollerball applicator, contains top notes of Italian bergamot, petitgrain, mandarin and lemon; middle notes of orange blossom and neroli; and base notes of lavender, jasmine, and musk. The result is a bright, sunny, cheerful fragrance with a carefree but flirtatious spirit. Fragrances with citrus notes tend to have a zesty kick, but this one does so without trying too hard and winding up smelling like a household detergent (think orange-scented Pledge or lemon-scented Lysol). In fact, the citrus notes balance each other out perfectly, likely because of the addition of mandarin, which has a sweeter aroma, and of petitgrain, which has a fresh and slightly floral quality. Also, the floral notes are the heart automatically give the aromatic composition a feminine touch but without going into overly delicate or romantic territory. What I find most irresistible about this scent, though, is how it smells as it dries down: tempting but tender, soft but seductive, perky but subtly provocative. That lasting scent makes me think of a frock’s spaghetti strap slipping down to reveal a sun-kissed shoulder, of a lover pressing his nose against his beloved’s bronzed skin and breathing in her scent.

The perfume oil, then, takes you on an aromatic journey, starting off with that peppiness you feel as your feel the sand in between your toes at the beach, as you peel off the layers of close to reveal your swimsuit, and begin slathering sunscreen onto your body. As the story unfolds, the scent gets a bit more playful, just like you would when splashing around in the water or playing a friendly game of paddleball. The scent laughs, winks, plays with its hair — everything you would do as the day progresses. And then, of course, the final chapter happens once the sun is setting, when day turns to night, when your beloved stands behind you and, angling his head ever so slightly, nuzzles your neck, taking in the scent of you — all the while sending shivers down your spine.

This is a limited-edition release so don’t waste the opportunity to get intimately acquainted with Go Naked.
