Charmed, I’m Sure — New Zoya Spring 2017 Charming Collection

With unicorn and mermaid beauty trends in full swing (the former revolving around dreamy pastels, glittery finishes, and opalescent and iridescent effects, and the latter embracing many of the same principles but adding long hair into the mix), it may just be the ideal time to release a nail polish collection that conjures up images of fairy tale princesses and the magical universes they inhabit. The Zoya Charming collection, new for Spring 2017, features a color palette practically ripped from the pages of Alice in Wonderland, or plucked from the animated frames of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, with shimmery baby blue and sea foam green colors paired with pastel lilac and baby pink hues. Each nail polish retails for $10 at Zoya.com. Is it an edgy, in-your-face collection? Not at all. But hey, it’s okay to show your softer side sometimes!

Check out all six shades in the collection below!

ABBY

This light lilac cream shade is fully opaque, achieving full coverage with just two coats — and, unlike many cream colors that are so thick they tend to clump, this one can be layered with ease. It reminds me a bit of Rapunzel’s dress in Tangled but, more than anything, it reminds me of one of those hazy sky scenes in The Last Unicorn.

AMIRA

This soft dewy blue shade reminds me of the dress Cinderella donned to the ball — right down to the soft shimmering finish, which feels like some of the magic dust sprinkled on by her fairy godmother’s wand. It’s slightly more on the aqua end of the blue spectrum than Cinderella’s baby blue gown, so that it might just remind you of Princess Jasmine’s iconic ensemble but, either way, it embodies the feeling of a fantasy. And this spellbinding shade doesn’t just vanish when the clock strikes midnight!

JORDAN

If you’ve gone to enough wedding receptions, chances are you’ve pecked at quite a few bowls of candy-coated almonds. This nail lacquer, then, could ostensibly have been inspired by the pink Jordan almonds so often used as wedding favors. It’s also reminiscent of the tonality of the long sleeves of Princess Aurora’s gown in the animated Disney movie, the one she dons shortly after being awoken by Prince Charming after a century-long slumber. Simply put: it’s a pretty cherry blossom pink with a creamy finish.

TINA

This grape-y purple nail lacquer reminds me of the color of the seashell bra top Ariel wore in The Little Mermaid. More than anything, however, it reminds me of the main character in Home: the adorable alien Oh.

LACEY

This dewy light green has Princess Tiana written all over it! Granted: it has more bluish undertones than Tiana’s trademark outfit, but it has that same aqueous quality and that same mysterious glow. The polish’s shimmer, meanwhile, makes it look like it’s bathing in moonlight.

MILLIE

This reddish violet has an entrancing, electric, almost galactic feel thanks to its metallic sheen and its fuchsia sparkle. This color again conjures up images of The Last Unicorn — specifically, of the deeper violet shades of the tree that Schmendrick turns into a woman in one of the movie’s most bewildering scenes and, for that matter, of the colors of the vapors wafting through the forest in the scene in which the mythical creature is turned into a human woman.

Whatever you associate them with, these colors have one commonality: they’re all steeped in the realm of fantasy, of dream sequences, and happily ever afters.
