Creating A Summer-Ready Two-Toned Blue Eyeliner Makeup Look With Beauty Brands Goodies!
One of the most prominent makeup trends for Summer 2016 is blue eyelids — whether it’s turquoise eye shadow or sapphire liner. As a newly appointed member of the Beauty Brands A list (the “A” stands for ambassador, but I totally love being able to say I’m part of the A-list! ha!), I had the opportunity to test drive some products available at BeautyBrands.com and create an on-trend beauty look using them. After perusing through the site — which offers products from brands like Tarte, Stila, Laura Geller, Smashbox, and Too Faced, to name only a few — I decided I wanted to venture into the blue and dive into the aquatic-colored eye makeup trend. In the end, I created a bold blue liner look, which you can see in the photo above, that involved contrasting two tones: one a vibrant cobalt shade and the other a periwinkle hue. To make the eyes the focal point, I kept my lip color muted but chose a glossy and playful finish that echoed the youthful and whimsical energy of the eye liner look.
If you want to try this look out, here are the products you’ll need:
- Tarte Tartelette Tease Mini Eyeshadow Palette ($21 at BeautyBrands.com)
- Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Cobalt ($22 at BeautyBrands.com)
- Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Periwinkle ($22 at BeautyBrands.com)
- Tarte Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in Obvi ($20 at BeautyBrands.com)
Alright, now onto the steps!
First, you want to give your skin as much coverage as you desire — whether it’s by applying a BB or CC cream, tinted moisturizer, a lightweight foundation, or a full-coverage foundation. I personally opted for a lightweight foundation: the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation (not purchased at Beauty Brands, but part of my makeup collection). Another great option is the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation ($39 at BeautyBrands.com), which is also one of my all-time favorites.
Once you’ve applied foundation and concealer, you can start creating your eye look. Now, because I’m rather fair-skinned, I don’t like to leave my lids bare since you can see the tiny veins under the delicate skin. So, to create a smooth canvas and camouflage all those tiny veins, conceal any redness or dark spots, and just mute the lid area, I applied the “Whisper” shade in the Tarte Tartelette Tease Mini Eyeshadow Palette.
Take a look at the palette:
The Whisper shade is that matte French vanilla color on the top left row. It’s a very soft and demure shade which makes it a perfect base shade since it won’t battle for attention with the bright eyeliner hues. I applied this color to the entire eye area, from the lash line to the brow bone, making sure to blend along the corners for a very soft effect.
Next, comes the liner! I started with the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Cobalt, tracing the upper lash line with the marker-like tip and working my way from the inner corners of the eyes to the outer corners and adding a tiny flick for flair. Once the liquid liner dried, I went over the line again to achieve a bit more thickness.
Once the cobalt shade had set, I reached for the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Periwinkle and started applying it from the inner corners to the center of the upper lashline, layering it over the Cobalt shade. Next, I applied the same color, with a very light hand, under the lower lash line to create more of a contrast between the upper and lower lash lines. I finished with two coats of mascara.
When the liner look was complete, I moved on to my lip color. Again, I wanted the eyes to be the focal point, so I chose a muted lip shade: the Tarte Tarteist Glossy Lip Paint in Obvi, a caramel-tinged nude hue. The fun part of this lip product is its vinyl-like sheen, which mimics that of a lip gloss, all the while depositing a more pigment-rich color like what you’d find in a liquid lipstick.
This is an easy and breezy look that you can achieve in 15 minutes — perfect for busy summer days when you can’t wait to venture outside for some fun in the sun!
