Only a handful of stars truly shone on the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet, but those who did, were more radiant than supernovas. Ex Machina‘s Alicia Vikander looked exceptionally radiant in a sequined Louis Vuitton gown that looked as rich and gilded as a Gustav Klimt painting.  To complement the gown’s color scheme and build upon its luminosity, celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury created a soft but opulent look that emphasized a soft smokey eye with a gilded touch achieved through shimmering gold shadows.

To give Vikander’s skin a dewy finish, Tilbury prepped her skin with the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream and then massaged the Magic Eye Rescue along the orbital eye area. Next, to create the perfect base for foundation while also boosting radiance, Tillbury applied her Wonderglow Primer. To give the actress’s face coverage, she then applied the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation in 8 Dark.

Wherever she spotted any blemishes, red patches, or sallow areas, Tilbury dabbed her The Retoucher Concealer in 3 Medium. She also relied on her Mini Miracle Eye Wand in Shade 2 to brighten the under-eye area. To set the foundation and mattify the skin, eliminating any pesky shine, she swept the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder in 2 Medium.

Next, to accentuate Vikander’s high cheekbones and strong jawline, Tilbury relied on her Filmstar Bronze & Glow in Light-Medium, using the Powder & Sculpt Brush to highlight the high points of the face (the cheekbones, the center of the forehead, the ridge of the nose, and the chin) and to create shadows around these areas for a sculpted look. She then gave her cheeks a soft veil of color with Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Las Salinas, a golden pink hue, which she applied with the Magic Complexion Brush (hitting stores in March 2016).

Moving on to Vikander’s eyes, Tilbury started by using the Brow Lift in Cara D to perfect the screen star’s arches, filling in any gaps and helping to better frame her face. Next, she began the eye look by applying the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize cream shadow in Bette, a bronze-tinged, antique gold shade, onto her lids, softly blending the shade upwards and below the lower lash line, close to the waterline. Next, she applied the “Pop” shade from the Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in The Vintage Vamp, a shimmer-packed yellow gold shade, to the inner corners of the eyes and along the center of the lids. Then, to define the contours of the eyes, she applied the Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘N’ Kohl in Barbarella Brown to the outer corners of the eyes, focusing only on the top lash line and adding a controlled flick. Last, for larger-than-life lashes, she brushed on two coats of the Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes mascara onto top and bottom lashes.

Given the richness and shine of the eye look, Tilbury kept the pout understated, lining Vikander’s lips with the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillowtalk and then applying the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Bond Girl, a natural-looking berry shade with an earthy quality. Not only was the lip color a smart choice thanks to its subtlety, but it created an interesting contrast due to its matte finish, which perfectly balanced the shimmering elements of the eye look.

One of the best makeup looks of this award season so far, don’t you think?
