Are the holiday party invites starting to pour in? Already preparing your New Year’s outfit? Well, make sure you dress to impress  – and there’s no better way to elevate the glamour level of an ensemble than with a hair accessory that conveys a sense of poise, elegance, and opulence. This season, Baroque excess seems to have guided designers to create hair combs, headbands, barrettes, and pins embellished with lace, pearls, gem-like crystals, resin rosettes, and shiny metallic accents.

Yesterday, I stopped by Telemundo NY’s “Acceso Total” with Matrix hairstylist Robert Santana to show off some of the hair accessories that can jazz up any holiday ensemble, while Robert discussed how he created beautiful, romantic yet modern hairstyles that accentuated these statement pieces. If you missed the segment, make sure to check it out above or by clicking here.

Curious about the pieces shown? Read on for more details on each and every accessory and some notes on the hairstyles Robert created using Matrix Stylelink products.

The first accessory showcased was this gunmetal-toned hairpiece, which features a thin, curved horizontal metal strip that creates a “U” shape so that it can be worn around the head, with the open ends facing back (as shown in the image above, which is a close-up of the look Robert created) or with them facing forward and the metal strip grazing the back of the head like a halo. Each of the ends has a haircomb attachment, which allows the piece to remain secure atop the head and, above these combs, there are laurel leaf designs and faux pearls that add a Grecian grandeur. As you can see, Robert created a lovely updo by forming two braids along each side of the head, then bringing them together at the back and rolling the hair left loose on the back upwards .

Bebe Lace & Ruby Stone Headpiece, $55. Available at Bebe stores.

Next, the most intricate of the pieces shown in the segment: a Victorian-flavored headband with a nude satin lining, a gold lace overlay, ruby-colored crystals surrounded by smaller faux pearl and ruby-colored crystals to create floral shapes, and domed pearl stones with gold-toned perimeters. Robert created a very classic hairstyle to complement this look: a modern take on a low bun. To create the look, he pinned strands into a low ponytail, curling different sections, then loosely pinned these curled strands up to form an intricate, textured, bun-like shape. He also left two strands loose to frame the face and create a sense of softness.

At bottom: Chloe + Isabel Crystal Baguette Hair Clip, $38. Available at ChloeandIsabel.com

The final look shown was a classic ponytail, but with a tousled crown to give it a playful and modern feel. To add glamour to the timeless style, we adorned the side of the model’s head with a cluster of embellished pins. We used two Nissa Jewelry Spellbound hair pins, placing them so that they were facing opposite directions. Made of antiqued, silver-toned metal, each pin features four horizontal bars of different lengths so as to resemble a wing, with a s square, faceted, clear crystal adding a luminosity to the design. In between the Nissa Jewelry clips, meanwhile, we placed another hair clip with a similar Art Deco feel, this time a design by Chloe + Isabel with clear crystals in square, rectangular, and round shapes.

Urban Outfitters Golden Leaf Headband, $28. Available at UrbanOutfitters.com

Last but not least, I wore this gold-toned headband from Urban Outfitters, which features an asymmetrical design consisting of intertwined golden branches with textured leaves. Since I was wearing an off-the-shoulder cape dress, I kept my hair down and added some volume and movement via loose and bouncy curls.

Well, there you have it! As you can see, the right hair accessory can make a striking impact, adding a posh touch to any holiday-ready look!
