What Beauty Products Are On Your Favorite TV Character’s Vanity Table?
If you spend enough time shopping for, reading about, or reviewing beauty products, chances are you’ll develop an eagle eye when it comes to spotting them while watching your favorite TV shows. Maybe you can spot a grooved silver Clinique lipstick tube or a bullet-shaped black MAC lipstick tube from a mile away. Perhaps you can almost instinctively identify a L’Artisan Parfumeur perfume bottle or a Robert Piguet flaçon. But even the most observant and knowledgeable of us tend to miss some of the details during those fleeting moments when our favorite TV characters sit before their vanity tables or look into a bathroom mirror to style their manes, apply lipstick, and spritz on some perfume. So, if you’re curious about Annalise Keating’s go-to fragrance or Claire Underwood’s favorite eyeliner, we’ve got you covered. Check out some of the products we spotted on these powerful ladies’ vanity tables!
ANNALISE KEATING (VIOLA DAVIS) IN HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER
In several intense scenes throughout Season 1, usually involving tense exchanges between Annalise and her philandering husband, viewers witnessed the ace attorney and law professor sitting before her vanity table and removing her makeup. In most scenes, the lighting is rather dim so only a few objects are truly identifiable, but we quickly made out the Tocca Stella Eau de Parfum (circled and labeled No.1) in the photo above) as well as the NARS Makeup Cleansing Water (circled and labeled No. 2 above).
Tocca Stella Eau de Parfum, $68 at Tocca.com
NARS Makeup Removing Water (shown above, at right), $28. Available at NARScosmetics.com
CHANEL OBERLIN (EMMA WATSON) IN SCREAM QUEENS
During the pilot episode of the Ryan Murphy-created horror-comedy series Scream Queens, audiences were introduced to the Queen Bee of the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority Chanel Oberlin, who domineers and chastises her “minions” with the ease of Blair Waldorf, utters more venomous phrases and displays more contempt for authority than all three Heathers combined, and manipulates her little kingdom as deftly as Regina George. Like any pampered TV or film mean girl, she has an elaborate beauty routine, which includes applying a pale pink MAC lipstick (shown above).
MAC Lipstick, $17. Available at MACcosmetics.com
MARY JANE PAUL (GABRIELLE UNION) IN BEING MARY JANE
News correspondent Mary Jane Paul might just be an undercover product junkie: in the series’ pilot episode, viewers watch her run to the bathroom to freshen up when an unexpected (and hunky) visitor arrives unannounced and, as she splashes water on her face and stares at her reflection in the mirror, we get to see a vast array of products on her countertop. Though some are hard to discern, we did make out the Fekkai Technician Color Care Color Protecting Glaze (that signature pink bottle makes it easy to pick out!), the Jergens Natural Glow moisturizer (which helps to keep skin tan and radiant), the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion (which is extremely gentle and perfect for sensitive skin), and a Sephora eyelash curler (still in its see-through cube case). Here are close-ups of these products:
Fekkai Technician Color Care Color-Protecting Glaze (dicontinued)
Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer, $9.99. Available at Ulta.com
Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion, $8.99 at Drugstore.com
Sephora Show Curl Eyelash Curler, $17. Available at Sephora.com
MINDY LAHIRI (MINDY KALING) IN THE MINDY PROJECT
Before Danny Castellano and Mindy Lahiri became a “thing,” they were just two co-workers who bickered endlessly and claimed to detest one another while secretly loving each other’s antics. In a Season 1 episode, Danny and Mindy were poised to go on a double date with their respective love interests, and Danny made the mistake of arriving at Mindy’s apartment 15 minutes early to pick her up. He wound up having to observe her complex getting-done-up routine and, while he couldn’t have been less enthused, viewers were happy to get a sneak peek at the products on Mindy’s bathroom counter. We spotted a bottle of Dr. Hauschka Revitalizing Day Moisturizer, a bottle of red Zoya nail polish, and a bottle of a peach-y O.P.I. nail polish.
Here are the products we found:
Dr. Hauschka Revitalizing Day Cream, $43 for 1 fl. oz. bottle at Dr.Hauschka.com
O.PI. Nail Lacquer (shown here in Los Cabos Coral), $9 at Sally Beauty Supply and select drugstores.
Zoya Rekha Nail Polish, $9 at Zoya.com
CLAIRE UNDERWOOD (ROBIN WRIGHT) IN HOUSE OF CARDS
Before we even get to Claire’s vanity table and her makeup bag, let’s talk about the shower gels and lotions she keeps next to the bathroom. In the screenshot above, the tray above the wooden bureau holds several Jo Malone products — presumably they’re the Lime Basil & Mandarin scents so frequently found in top-notch luxury hotels.
Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Shower Oil, $45, and Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Body Lotion, $55. Available at JoMalone.com
Moving on to Claire Underwood’s vanity table, the most recognizable products therein are a Tocca fragrance (something Claire has in common with Annalise Keating aside from their power dressing prowess and their weakness for morally reprehensible men) and a NARS lip gloss toward the front edge of the table. Here are product shots of both items:
Tocca Bianca Eau de Parfum, $68 at Tocca.com
NARS Lip Gloss, $26. Available at NARScosmetics.com
Last but not least, if you binge-watched Season 3 of HOC, you likely remember the very awkward scene in which Claire reverses the power paradigm by forcing a Russian diplomat to discuss diplomacy with her while she does her makeup in the ladies’ room (and proceeds to use the toilet — making sure to leave the door open so as to maximize his uneasiness). When she touches up her eyeliner,it’s easy to see that she’s using an Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in a brown hue — presumably Underground, Roach, Smog, Corrupt or Bourbon).
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (shown here in Roach), $20. Available at UrbanDecay.com
