Matte Bubblegum Pink Lips And Luminous Skin At Michael Costello SS16
Inspired by the decadent opulence of the 1970s and the Studio 54 crowd that informed Michael Costello’s Spring 2016 collection, NARS International Lead Makeup Stylist Uzo created a bold and daring pout for the designer’s NYFW show — but, rather than recreate the red pouts so prominent in the era, she brought the look to the modern era with a matte and icy-pink lip. The complexion, meanwhile, was given a soft but illuminated feel.
To create the look, Uzo started by hydrating the skin to give it the desired suppleness, applying the NARSskin Aqua Gel Oil-Free Luminous Moisturizer and massaging it into the skin or the NARSskin Luminous Moisture Cream for those models with more parched complexions. Next, to keep the look soft but dewy, Uzo applied the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation to offer a hint of coverage and a soft-focus finish, then covered up any dark circles, redness, or spots with the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer.
To highlight key areas of the visage, making models’ faces look like they were being illuminated by the most flattering of mood lighting, Uzo dabbed the Copacabana Illuminator, a light-reflecting liquid with a cool pink tonality and a shimmering pearl finish, along the higher areas of the cheekbones and down the ridge of the nose. On models with darker skin tones, meanwhile, she applied the Laguna Illuminator. Next, she intensified this glow by layering the corresponding multiple shade atop the blended-in illuminator, dabbing the creamy Copacabana Multiple or the Laguna Multiple along the tops of cheekbones. On the apples of cheeks, meanwhile, she swept the NARS Craving Dual-Intensity Blush or the Jubilation Dual-Intensity Blush for models with deeper complexions. To set the look, she dusted the Soft Velvet Loose Powder all over the models’ faces.
Eyes, meanwhile, were given just a touch of color as Uzo blended the sparkling baby pink shade in the NARS Adoration Dual-Intensity Blush with the shimmering nude and gold shades in the NARS Jubilation Dual-Intensity Blush and swept these all over lids. To add a smoky touch, she used the icy platinum shades in the NARS Tarvos Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow (new for Spring 2016). Two coats of NARS Audacious Mascara completed the look.
The key element of the makeup look was, of course, the pink lip. Uzo created the bold pink pout using the NARS Roman Holiday Lipstick, then blending it with the NARS Santa Monica Boulevard Larger than Life Eyeliner, a long-wearing lip pencil in a white shade that, when layered atop the lipstick made the pink color appear more intense, gave it a modern feel, and bestowed a matte finish upon it.
