What I Wore: An Unlikely Marriage Of Wild Flower Prints And Futuristic Jewelry
Earlier today, I stopped by Telemundo 47’s Acceso Total to showcase some of ShoeDazzle’s newest styles (each retailing for under $50!) and speak on how the chosen pieces spoke to this season’s prevalent footwear trends: from fringe detailing to color-blocking and the resurgence of the high-heeled Mary Jane pump. Since I was focusing exclusively on ShoeDazzle styles, it felt apropos to wear a pair of the brand’s shoes myself, and so I rocked the mulberry-colored Alessandra by Madison pumps shown last above ($49.95 at Shoedazzle.com), which feature a pointy toe, an open heel, a low-cut instep that reveals the arch of the foot, and leaf-shaped cut-outs along the outer side, each rimmed in a metallic gold hue. Not only was I struck by the silhouette and the lively color, but I was drawn to the leaf motifs — particularly since they seemed to capture the savage beauty of this ASOS dress I’d been aching to wear.
The ASOS dress, as you’ll hopefully see from the photos above, has a high neck — almost a mock neck — a banded waist, and an origami-like skirt with a draped rounded opening along the center. The material itself is pretty thick, a neoprene blend, and I certainly would not have worn it on a day with a 90-degree forecast had it not been for the fact that the studio is always kept nice and cool (producers, directors, hosts, and cameramen all love their air conditioning!). Despite it being a bit heavier than most materials allotted for summer dresses, the material does provide a nice fit, skimming curves lightly and providing a body-conscious but not vulgar or skin-tight fit. I love that the high neckline and the tea length make the dress feel ladylike while the print itself has this dynamic energy to it thanks to the rambunctious combination of wild flowers — violet-blue iris blossoms, magenta monkeyflowers, fuchsia elegant clarkias, and clusters of periwinkle baby blue-eyes blooms — all peeking through tall blades of grass, suggesting an untamed environment, a realm where nature remains untouched and glorious.
Instead of keeping things dainty on the accessory front, I decided to embrace the indomitable spirit of the blossoms in the printed dress by going the opposite route, choosing deliberately bold and futuristic pieces of jewelry. The key elements were my oval-shaped violet earrings, which feature a cut-out along the center, and two pod-shaped rings on my right hand: one in the same violet shade as my earrings and the other in a metallic berry-esque pink. All these pieces were part of a galaxy-inspired collection designed by Alisson Hessert, the brainchild behind the indie jewelry brand Mixology NYC (which has been on hiatus for a bit, but which I hope will come back with a vengeance soon because Hessert’s designs are killer!). I then completed the look with a gunmetal-toned cuff bracelet from Nissa Jewelry featuring tiny blue-toned stones.
It was a bold match-up of moods and themes, but I was happy with how it all worked together. Hopefully, you’ll get some styling ideas for your own wardrobe as well!
