As it turns out, fashion designer Cynthia Rowley and J.Crew creative director Jenna Lyons are powerhouses in a multitude of settings — whether it’s their design studios, their corporate headquarters, a New York City runway, a boardroom, or the wide open sea. Both women are avid surfers — in fact, it was a fortuitous encounter at the beaches of Montauk that served as the catalyst for this creative collaboration. When Lyons saw Rowley wearing a similar wetsuit to the ones pictured above during their run-in, she suggested that Rowley design a similar piece exclusively for J.Crew shoppers. The final result is the wetsuit shown above, made of the same moisture-wicking, figure-hugging neoprene favored by professional water sports athlete but featuring shorts in lieu of full-length pants. In other words: it’s the romper of wetsuits!

The Cynthia Rowley for J.Crew Wetsuit ($210 at JCrew.com) features modern color-blocking and colorful accent stitching that accentuates geometric patterns and motifs, and it’s available in two colorways: one an ash gray with pink sorbet, neon lime, navy blue, kelly green, and teal details; the other, a darker slate gray with bright orange, cobalt blue, an ochre-tinged khaki color, and black detailing.

Time to show off that killer style sense while riding the perfect wave!
