Even In Beauty, Orange Is The New Black — Energize Your Senses With New Dove Go Fresh Revitalize Collection
We all know citrus-based scents tend to have an energizing sensory effect, their zesty notes uplifting our senses and literally adding a pep to our step. While, in the winter, we might crave the comfort of creamy scents like pumpkin pie, shea butter, creme brulée, and bourbon-tinged vanilla, come summertime, we tend to long for fruity aromas — primarily of the citric or tropical variety. The timing is perfect, then, for Dove to introduce the newest addition to the Go Fresh line: the Revitalize aroma, which incorporates a madarin and tiare flower fragrance.
The Dove Go Fresh Revitalize Body Wash ($6.99 at drugstores and mass market retailers) makes every shower a mood-boosting experience. Though I’ve tried a plethora of body washes with orange notes (whether navel, bitter, Valencia, or blood oranges), this one is unique in that it features the oft-ignored mandarin orange, which is significantly sweeter than most of its orange-skinned cousins. Most of us snacked on mandarin orange slices as young children, clutching them in our tiny hands and nibbling each tiny wedge gleefully, so there’s an element of nostalgia procured by this note. It also has a more demure aroma, so that it’s not as ostentatious as other orange varieties. The lush gardenia note, meanwhile, adds a tropical feel and a delicate femininity. The final result is vibrant but slightly creamy and hence indulgent, coquettishly floral, and utterly delicious.
Thanks to Dove’s Nutrium Moisture technology, which relies on fatty acids like lauric acid and stearic acid to restore the skin’s lipid layer (the barrier layer that seals in moisture), your skin will likely feel comfortable and hydrated after cleansing. Also, instead of harsh sulfates, the body wash relies on more gentle surfactants like cocamidopropyl betaine and sodium lauroyl glycinate, which have been shown to have less of an irritating effect on skin. Sure, if you have ultra-sensitive skin, you may want to bypass any cleanser which includes artificial fragrances (the mandarin and tiare aroma is, indeed, synthetic) and coloring (this one has Yellow 5 and Red 33) but, otherwise, this body wash is a wise and budget-friendly choice.
I’ve always preferred body washes to solid soaps but, if you prefer the latter, you can scoop up the Dove Go Fresh Revitalize Beauty Bar ($3.79 for a 2-pack at drugstores and mass market retailers), which contains 1/4 moisturizing ingredients.
