Happy first day of spring! Today, over in the Northeast, we’re getting snowflakes instead of flowers to usher in the new season, but that doesn’t mean we can’t, at the very least, embrace the celebratory spirit of the day. I certainly did so yesterday, when I stopped by Telemundo NY’s “Acceso Total” to chat about the latest high tech beauty gadgets (check out the segment here and stay tuned for the recap!). For the appearance, I chose a funky midi-length dress from ASOS with short sleeves, a high straight-across neckline, strong shoulders, and a nipped-in waist.

If you look at the close-up shot of the frock’s graphic print (third above), you’ll notice that it’s comprised of large geometric shapes (particularly diamonds) which are, in turn, accentuated by the  angular stripes, tinier chevron patterns, and patchwork-like designs at their center. The usage of thick black lines and hints of lime green make the graphic quality of the design really come to life, while the oversize blooms superimposed over the geometric shapes lend the dress a modern femininity that creates a fun visual tension when you consider the slightly retro silhouette.

Since the dress was so very graphic, I kept the accessories somewhat minimal (well, for me anyway!), choosing a pair of white, teardrop-shaped Kendra Scott earrings and pairing them with a tall stack of Amrita Singh bangles. To give the look a bit of edge, I relied on  cluster of pearl rings: an open-front ring from Baublebar with pearls on either end (which I wore on my index finger) and a two-finger ring from NastyGal featuring an undulating gold-toned surface adorned with pearls that gradate in size, becoming smaller as one’s gaze moves from the middle finger to the ring finger.

Since it was still chilly outside, I finished the look with a pair of opaque black tights and lace-up Tabitha Simmons black booties.

Hope you like the look and that it inspires you to play with blossoms and pearls in your own unique way!
