Calling All Sex And The City Fans! Patricia Field Is Selling Carrie Bradshaw’s Favorite Suitcase
If you watched and practically memorized all Sex and the City episodes, then you might remember Season One’s final episode “Oh Come All Ye Faithful,” when Carrie demanded she meet Mr. Big’s mother and he declined to appease her, leading her to sneak into a Sunday church service with Miranda —both dressed with ridiculously large hats and gloves they somehow thought would be appropriate for the occasion — just so she could get a glimpse of Big alongside his mom. Well, at the end of that very episode, Carrie was supposed to go on vacation with Big but, feeling like he had a crippling fear of intimacy that would never allow them to truly connect, she ended up breaking up with him right in front of her building, standing on the sidewalk with her hatbox-style suitcase behind her.
Well, if at the time, you salivated over Carrie’s unusual but charming suitcase, now is your chance to add it to your own closet — not a replica of the piece, at that, but the actual suitcase used during filming. Patricia Field, the series’ award-winning costume designer, has opened up her fashion vault (which apparently holds as many treasures as Disney’s cinematic vault) and is offering one lucky woman the chance to own a piece of Sex and the City History.
The round, vintage, white leather suitcase is up for grabs at PatriciaField.com, retailing for $500 (a hefty sum but, then, it’s got the memento quality to back up its price). Measuring 20″ in width and height and 7″ in depth, the suitcase features a rounded top handle and a top metallic closure, as well as tiny legs along the flat bottom that allow it to stand up when placed on the floor without the leather getting dirty and dingy.
The hatbox-shaped American Tourister suitcase likely dates back to the 1960s, making it perfect for all you retro-loving gals. Just remember: it’s been used so there are definitely signs of wear — if you examine all the pictures on PatriciaField.com, you’ll notice some areas where the white leather appears a bit brownish and distressed. But, for hardcore SATC fans, those are just war wounds that point to just how much Carrie loved this particular travel case.
