What I Wore On Telemundo NY To Discuss Holiday Fashion For The Whole Family

On Friday, I filmed a TV segment for Telemundo NY focusing on holiday fashions for the whole family.  Though we showcased sample looks for mom and dad, we paid the most attention to the kids’ ensembles, to clothes and accessories that are appropriate for family get-togethers but are also whimsical and trendy. The goal, then, was to outfit the kids in clothes that they’ll want to wear them, pieces in which they’ll feel comfortable while abiding by their parents’ dress code standards.

Using clothes from the Children’s Place, we outfitted the 5-year-old boy model in two dapper outfits: the first, a pair of dark blue jeans with a long-sleeved, plaid print, button-down shirt worn under a classic navy sweater with white horizontal stripes and, to top it all off, a cozy winter hat with a monster design; and, the second, a pair of slacks paired with another, more festive plaid print button-down and accessorized with a tailored vest and a Rat Pack-worthy fedora. The 7-year-old girl model, meanwhile, also showcased two adorable ensembles: the first, a more casual look consisting of skinny jeans, a long-sleeved red graphic tee with a cheeky phrase about being on Santa’s “nice” list, a sleeveless purple leopard print down jacket, faux-fur lined gray boots covered in silver sequins, and a darling headband with a sequined embellishment; and, the second, a dressier look consisting of a sleeveless dress with a ribbon-trimmed waist and a leopard print skirt with a bubble-like hemline, a pair of glittery ballerina flats, and a coquettish headband.

While discussing the trends and fashions showcased, meanwhile, I had my own statement-making look. I’ve been fascinated by the digital, surrealistic prints popularized by designers like Peter Pilotto and Mary Katrantzou and, while I can’t afford their wares, I knew I could find a more affordable garment with a similar aesthetic (albeit sans the innovative silhouettes and ultra-luxurious fabrics). I finally found a dress to my liking at Topshop: the Moodywood Bodycon Dress ($78 at US.Topshop.com), a long-sleeved, calf-length, form-fitting number with a mysterious print depicting a woody, shadowy area with barren branches, pops of aurora borealis-worthy purple and pink colors along the lower portion of the skirt, and colorful butterflies fluttering below the scoop neckline.

Since it was insanely chilly on Friday, I paired the dress with black tights and then laced up my black leather Kathryn Amberleigh booties, which I purchased at a flash sale site and positively adore since they add a good 4 inches.

In terms of jewelry, I relied mainly on a pair of Tova Fringe Earrings, which I purchased at MyHabit.com. The earrings have a really distinct rocker vibe thanks to the silver-toned fringe that brushes against the shoulders, but the stones placed linearly to create these earrings all harmonize perfectly with the colors in the Topshop dress. Clear round cubic zirconia stones are placed right at the ear posts and, directly beneath them, there are translucent, oval-shaped violet stones that are only slightly larger than the clear cubic zirconias. Beneath these oval-shaped violet stones, you’ll find larger, faceted, prong-set rectangular stones placed sideways. Dangling below these violet rectangular stones, you’ll discover silver-toned, faceted, oversize, teardrop-shaped stones that add a moody vibe to the design — the perfect choice to accompany the earrings’ fringe, the result of silver-toned chain strands.

To add a little bling to my neckline, I wore an ABS by Allen Schwartz necklace that I purchased at Bloomingdale’s last spring. Here’s a close-up of the necklace, which features rows of clear stones in round, rectangular, and triangular shapes, stacked together for maximum effect:

On my right wrist, meanwhile, I wore a series of bracelets: one a chunky chainmail bracelet from Mixology NYC, another a slim Satya Jewelry bracelet with shiny black beads, and lastly Nissa Jewelry’s Georgina bracelet, which features thick curb chain links and a safety pin closure.
