What I Wore On Day 2 Of New York Fashion Week SS14

Yesterday was Day 2 of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 here in New York City and, as happens every September, I was running around from one place to the next — not the easiest of feats when you’re in 4″-high stilettos (not to mention that my first stop was Chelsea Piers which has streets paved in cobblestone).  Anyway, though many girls will already pulling out their fall coats and sweaters, the truth is it was 70-something degrees in the early afternoon and, as far as I’m concerned, it’s not really autumn just yet. Hey, whatever excuse I can use to give my colorful summery frocks a bit more run!

As you all know, I love wearing dresses (it’s part of what makes being a girl so much fun!), so I opted for this vibrant number from BCBGMAXAZRIA. The dress has a really bright tropical print that incorporates shades ranging from a lemony yellow to a vibrant fuchsia, a greenish teal, a deep violet, a cyan green, an inky blue, and a deep orange, so just looking at it makes you smile. The cut of the dress is amazing — it falls right above the knee, and it has ruching along the sides, plus it features a zipper detail that runs diagonally from the center of the hemline to the left side of the bodice, right below the bustline.

Since I’m a sucker for bold jewelry, I paired the dress with a statement necklace from Topshop (shown up close below). The collar necklace features multiple golden chains, each featuring a different stud shape or texture: one row featuring round studs, another incorporating a box chain texture, another featuring square pyramid studs, and so forth. The lower rim of the collar features two strands of neon enamel studs — one orange and one yellow — and for a slightly tribal effect, horn-shaped beads radiate along the bottom of the necklace.

Next, I reached for my Baume & Mercier Linea watch, which is amazing in so many ways. First, it’s a true luxury timepiece and it looks so polished and sleek.  Second, it features wraparound straps that make the watch feel less utilitarian and more like a true accessory, fighting for attention in the way that you’d expect from a bracelet. Third, the straps are easily interchangeable so that you can color coordinate with your outfit. The brand just debuted a new series of satin straps that are as fashion-forward as they are elegant. Moving on to my right hand, I had a field day with my bracelets, stacking a bunch of friendship style bracelets in fun neon colors, all featuring chain accents and inset colored stones. Most of the bracelets came from H&M save for the one at the very bottom, which is from Ettika and  features rocker-flavored gold-toned spikes. And, since I’m a sucker for punk-y rings, I wore a shield-shaped ring from House of Harlow 1960 on my index finger and an open ring with double spikes reaching outward like wings on either side.

 And, of course, I never miss an opportunity to wear some bangin’ shoes! These multi-colored, pointy toe stiletto pumps are from Dolce & Gabbana, and I purchased them about 10 years ago on eBay.com after having a bitter feud with another anxious bidder. Back then, you could find some amazing (and authentic) designer shoes on eBay for next to nothing and, perhaps because of that, I wound up with a bit of an eBay addiction.  Fortunately, I’ve learned a bit of self-control when it comes to my shopping impulses over the years — and, hey, if nothing else, I got some fierce shoes as a result of my former reckless ways. See? There’s always a silver lining!

In between shows, I managed to stop at the Keep lounge at the Bloomberg Tower where guests were treated to refreshments and morning snacks and gifted custom Keep necklaces. We also had the chance to view the latest collection of handbags from Cleobella, and we were offered dry styling (either faux bangs or braids) by stylists from the Butterfly Studio Salon in NYC. Amanda from Butterfly Studio Salon hooked my hair up, creating an elaborate updo involving intertwined braids and curly ends. It was very edgy and very rock ‘n’ roll, which is exactly what I wanted.
