Bring Sexy Back With New Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks
Lip crayons can feel heaven-sent in the summertime, when we’re all taking steps to melt-proof our makeup. The best ones deliver a touch of sheer color and a glossy shine to the pout, while also moisturizing and softening lips. Best of all, they’re beyond user-friendly since all you have to do is glide the pointed, jumbo-sized, crayon-like tip over lips. Clinique’s Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms and Tarte’s LipSurgence Natural Lip Lusters have dominated the jumbo lip pencil arena, but more and more brands are beginning to release their own iterations — among them NARS Cosmetics (their Satin Lip Pencils are superb!), Sonia Kashuk, NYX Cosmetics, Mally Beauty, and Soap & Glory.
I’ve been trying out the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks ($16 at Sephora.com) for a few weeks now, and I really enjoy their texture and the natural-looking tint that they deposit on lips, which is like a soft veil of color. While some lip color sticks can feel like they have lead tips, tugging away at your pout, the Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick has a melt-on-your-mouth quality that makes the application process soothing and enjoyable.
Now, I was a bit hesitant to try these because my experience with Soap & Glory lip products had been limited to the Sexy Mother Pucker XL Extreme Lip Shines, which make mouths appear fuller and plumper but, in the process, also make lips tingle in a way that felt absolutely torturous to me. When I first tried the Sexy Mother Pucker XL Extreme, I felt as if I’d eaten a bowl of ghost chili peppers, and I ended up running to the restroom to wash the product off my lips so I could get some relief. Needless to say, I feared that I’d have to relive the experience all over again with the Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks but, fortunately, nothing of the sort occurred.
The Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks incorporate collagen pre-peptides that support the skin’s collagen production, making lips appear fuller and smoother without the dreaded tingling sensation that I experienced with the Sexy Mother Pucker XL Extreme gloss. The product’s Ultimelt Lip Shine & Shaping technology, meanwhile, is responsible for that melt-on-your-mouth sensation I described earlier and it also ensures pigments adhere to lips as soon as you glide the buttery tip of the lip crayon on your kisser. Lastly, the Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick features a Gloss-Fix Finish that keeps the color in place, minimizing the possibility of there being any smudging or feathering, while also yielding an icy, mirror-like sheen.
Apart from its creamy yet lightweight feel, I really appreciate that the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks deposit a sheer wash of color onto the pout and deliver tons of shine without the stickiness that tends to accompany standard lip glosses. Also, whereas other lip color sticks tend to migrate when you rub lips together, with the color running well past the contours of the mouth, setting up camp around the perimeter of the mouth instead of its center, the Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks remained in place.
The Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks are currently available in three shades: Plum Jam, a guava-like pink with a tawny, earthy quality; Nudist, a medium-toned, peach-meets-caramel hue; and Fuchsia-Ristic, a bright hot pink. All the colors are extremely sheer and, while they’re not particularly saturated with pigment (they look a lot sheerer on your pout than they do when you swatch them), they do pack a wallop in the shine department. If you’re going for a bare-faced look over the summer but just want to give your lips a bit of pop, then, these will work wonders.

Here’s a shot of me wearing the Nudist shade. As you can see, the color looks really natural on lips so that you can barely tell I’m wearing anything at all, but there’s a nice shiny finish to the pout and that tinge of color.
I do wish that there were more shades available, but it’s a promising start!
