Laura Mercier Releases New Creme Eye Liner and Eight Brand New Caviar Stick Eye Colour Shades

Know the expression “caviar dreams”? Well, for beauty junkies the idiom likely doesn’t reference salt-cured fish eggs but a ground-breaking makeup offering: Laura Mercier‘s Caviar Stick Eye Colour. Resembling a jumbo eyeliner, the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour ($24 at LauraMercier.com) can be applied along the lashline for a hint of color or smoothed atop the entire lid, depositing a lovely creamy color that won’t flake, crease, smear, run, or lose its luster. I rely on the Caviar Stick in Smoke and Steel to create a moody, glamorous smoky eye in half the time it normally takes me to accomplish this feat, so I was thrilled to discover that Laura Mercier was introducing eight new shades to her Caviar Stick arsenal: Orchid, Sugar Frost, Seashell, Sandglow, Grey Pearl, Pink Opal, Mint Snow, and Rosegold.

As if word of the new Caviar Stick colors weren’t enough to send me into a state of makeup ecstasy, I then heard Mercier was also introducing a brand new product: the Laura Mercier Creme Eye Liner ($22 at LauraMercier.com), packaged in dainty paint pots. Boasting a featherweight, gel-like feel, this cream color is highly saturated in the pigment department and provides a semi-matte finish. The full coverage cream liner is available in six shades: Noir, Espresso, Violet, Canard, Indigo and Cobalt.

Below, you’ll find more details on these new launches, as well as swatches and sample looks. It’s an eyeful— in the best possible way, of course!

NEW CAVIAR STICK EYE COLOUR SHADES

As I mentioned before, the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick  Eye Colour ($24 at LauraMercier.com) is the beauty equivalent of a magician’s wand. Each retractable tube features a wide-tipped stick of color that practically resembles a crayon (sans the pointed tip, of course, since the Caviar Stick has more of a rounded, domed end). A key part of the Caviar Stick’s genius lies in how easy it is to apply — not to mention how mess-free it makes the application process. Because the long-wearing creamy shadow adheres to lids easily, with a single gliding motion over the lids, you can create a surprisingly precise look using only the caviar stick, extending the color as far up as you desire (whether it’s below the crease, to the crease, or up to the brow bone), creating the shape of your choice (whether it’s extremely graphic and angular or soft and rounded, fanned out at the outer corners or accentuated therein). The color is also easily blendable so that you can apply other shades atop it (even other cream colors or powder shadows), use a brush to soften the outline created and the edges, and even buff the lid to make sure the distribution of color is equitable).

The Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour shades introduced for Spring 2013 are: Orchid, Sugar Frost, Seashell, Sandglow, Grey Pearl, Pink Opal, Mint Snow, and Rosegold.

I had the opportunity to try two of the new shades: Orchid and Mint Snow. The Orchid Caviar Stick Eye Colour is a moody, lilac color with grayish pink undertones and it’s saturated with metallic, almost carnation pink shimmer. Highly pigmented and offering full coverage, the Orchid Caviar Stick looks creamy and dewy hours after it’s been applied to lids and it boasts a sophisticated, near-metallic sheen that makes it all the more remarkable. The Mint Snow Caviar Stick Eye Colour, meanwhile, is significantly more sheer, so that the base appears almost translucent and what makes the shade pop is the high concentration of iridescent, pale spearmint-meets-seafoam -green micro pearls, which look like clustered snow drops.

Below, you’ll find swatches of the Mint Snow and Orchid Caviar Stick Eye Colour shades:

Next, you’ll find a couple of photos in which I’m wearing only the Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Orchid on my lids. I took these so you could see the level of coverage you can achieve with this cream color alone and how convenient it can be for days when you want your makeup to be easy and quick (we all have the five-minute face days!)

I fell in love with the Orchid shade rather quickly, so I started experimenting with different product combinations, using this Caviar Stick shade as my base. For the look pictured below, for instance, I started by using the Caviar Stick in Orchid and smoothing it all along the lid, working the color into the crease, then gently dabbed on the Lancôme Color Design Infinité 24H Crease-Free Luminous Eyeshadow in Vibrant Violet. To give the eyes a bit of definition, I applied a powder eye shadow from MAC Cosmetics in a rich purple hue along the outer corners and then lined my upper lash line with the NYX Cosmetics Slide On Pencil in Purple Blaze.

Now, moving onto the Mint Snow shade, the color has this ice palace feel to it that’s very playful and fairy tale-worthy, but it’s also way more sheer than other Caviar Stick hues. If you want eyes to have just a hint of color, as if a sprinkle of icy sea spray had frozen on the lids, then you can glide the color onto lids by itself (as I did in the photos below to show how the shade appeared when applied to eyelids) but, if you want more coverage, I’d suggest starting with a base color and then applying this shade atop it to give it that slightly retro, glacial, sparkling finish.

NEW CREME EYE LINER COLORS

A brand new launch for the brand, the Laura Mercier Creme Eye Liner ($22 at LauraMercier.com) is a brilliant product in that it delivers richly pigmented color that doesn’t smudge or smear but, most importantly, its texture is incredibly smooth and feels almost gel-like when you apply it to the eyelid. The Laura Mercier Creme Eye Liner is available in six shades: Canard, Cobalt, Indigo, Espresso, Noir and Violet.

Unlike many liquid formulations  that can run and smear if your wrist shakes even the slightest bit during the application process, this liner’s creamy texture makes achieving precise lines a lot simpler. Since the Creme Eye Liner is so richly pigmented, one single stroke with a liner brush will deposit a bolt of eye-opening color that’s even more striking than what you could achieve using a kohl pencil. The finish, meanwhile is matte but smooth and silky.

Below, you’ll find swatches of the two shades I tried out: Cobalt and Indigo.

Since I love the cobalt eye trend that’s so on trend, I decided to try applying the Laura Mercier Creme Eye Liner in Indigo all along the lids, extending the color to the area right below the crease. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the final effect was as bold and modern as I had anticipated. Check out the pics below!
