Ride ’em, Urban Cowgirl! Check out these Eugenia Kim for Stetson Hats

Cowgirl-inspired fashions have played a major role in this season’s style landscape, with brands like Nicholas K, Carlos Miele, Mara  Hoffman, and Isabel Marant all toying with motifs ranging from gaucho pants and fitted jumpsuits to wide-brimmed hats, equestrian boots, ponchos, and tribal-inspired prints. And with Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained blending the traditional spaghetti western genre with a Blaxploitation attitude, a modern revenge thriller format, a bloody action film pace, and the irreverent dialogue and seedy look of his trademark pulp movie fare, it seems like the Wild Wild West will  be a blazin’ hot topic for months to come. And, of course, if you dare to unleash your bad-to-the-bone side and toy with an urban cowgirl look, you’ll need the perfect hat, one that’s both corral- and street-ready. Fortunately, my favorite hat designer, Eugenia Kim, has already ventured to glamorize and modernize rustic toppers via a collaboration with legendary cowboy hat purveyor Stetson.

Inspired by the rustic landscape and sights of the Wild Wild West — think cactus plants, red rock canyons, arid desert expanses, woody saloons, ranches, sheriff’s station, and beautiful horses — the 12-piece Eugenia Kim for Stetson collection also reflects the rich colors seen in Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings during her time living in Taos, New Mexico in the 1930s and 1940s. With fedoras, cloches, and traditional cowboy hats adorned with pheasant feathers, studded details, leather strips, and carved antler horns, the collection nods to the Old West while also incorporating a more feminine attitude.

Pictured above are two of the hats in the collection: the Eugenia Kim for Stetson Wylie 1 ($145 at EugeniaKim.com), a light gray, felt number with a flat brim,  a pinched crown, and a decorative band around the base of the crown featuring gunmetal-toned domed studs and finished with a simple studded bow embellishment; and the Eugenia Kim for Stetson Wylie 3 ($145 at EugeniaKim.com), a champagne mink-colored number with a glittery, metallic gold ribbon and bow detail.

Wear these with a fur or cashmere poncho, a brown leather jacket with fringe, or  a trench and a tribal print scarf, and you’ll be in a rodeo all your own.
