Get The Look — Disco Princess Chic With Jewel-Adorned Dress, Starburst Earrings, and Sequined Flower Headband
On December 13th, I hosted an event at Shea Moisture’s Holiday Pop-Up Store in New York City’s Bryant Park in New York City and, the following day, I made sure to share some photos with you lovely readers so that you could feel like you were part of the fun. And, of course, now that all the event photos have trickled in, I wanted to offer a more detailed look at what I wore to the event.
Since it was an evening event, I wanted to wear something slightly dressier and more flirtatious that I could accessorize with pieces that would sparkle, glimmer, and shine in the night. I’d been dying to wear the ban.do Boom Boom Flower Headband in Midnight ($75 at shopbando.com), a gorgeous piece with a golden metal headband adorned with two rows of clear rhinestones and topped off with an oversize flower measuring 6″ in diameter and featuring seven, sequin-covered, bendable petals. I decided, then, that I would build my entire look around this show-stopping hair accessory. Earlier that day, I went to get my blonde hair touched up by my amazing colorist, David Stanko, at Cutler Salon and the lovely Angela, who often assists David, then styled my hair into a phenomenal, Cinderella-worthy updo with the most intricate, swirling shapes along the back (check out the photo of the back of my head above to see her handiwork). I loved that she parted my hair at the side and swept it sideways in this really fluid way that really brought attention to the flower embellishment on the headband.

Since the hair accessory would shimmer and shine throughout the evening, I wanted to pick a dress that would have a bit of a bling-y effect as well. I decided on this body-hugging, knee-length dress from H&M ($34.95 at H&M stores), an emerald green number with metallic threads that give the stretchy fabric a hint of twinkle. Featuring 3/4-length sleeves and a rounded neckline, the body-con dress is embellished with clear jewel-like crystals and stones arranged into small triangular shapes along the shoulders. For even more razzle-dazzle, I wore the Juana earrings from Puerto Rican jewelry designer Erika Peña, pictured below, starburst-shaped danglers made of clear lucite. The earrings feature faceted, teardrop-shaped, clear beads arranged in a circular shape, with each crystal’s pointy tip facing outward to create a fireworks-like effect. Another, smaller circle of beads was then placed stop this one so as to create more of a cluster effect at the center of the circular shape and so as to give these earrings more texture and dimension. I’ve had these earrings since 2008, so I’m not sure if they’re still available, but make sure to check out the Erika Pena boutique (http://www.erikapenashop.com) for other great jewelry options.
Next, I reached for an art deco-flavored stretch cuff from Lia Sophia which features clear faceted rectangular, square, and oval stones arranged so that both the bottom and top edges feature crown-like prongs.
And, since I couldn’t let my little fingers miss out on the fun, I slipped on the Dannijo Pearl Burst Deco Ring shown below, featuring an oxidized sterling silver band and featuring a cluster of three dome-shaped pearl stones arranged into a triangular shape. Along the top and bottom of each pearl, there are tiny, rectangular-shaped, prong-set Swarovski crystals and, at the center of the pearl cluster, lies a smaller pearl stud and a round Swarovski crystal. The ring originally retailed for $135, but we snatched it up at a Dannijo sample sale, so it was a major score at the time!
Since it was chilly outside, I wore black tights underneath the dress and finished off the playful but glam look with a pair of fur-trimmed ankle booties from House of Harlow 1960. The Arissa 2 boots (currently on sale for $163 at HouseofHarlow1960.com) feature two leather straps and silver-toned, D-shaped buckles along the vamp, with faux fur all along the vamp and tongue area, and a sleek, 4″ wedge heel.
In the end, I felt like the look was a mélange of Studio 54 disco flashiness, coquettish 1920s flapper style, romantic Cinderella-esque charm, and New York City cool.
