Hello Kitty and Forever 21 Release New “Hello Kitty Forever” Collection

Once go cat, you never go back — at least, when the cat in question is the lovely Hello Kitty. Clothing and accessories retailer Forever 21 has just unveiled its sophomore collaborative collection with Hello Kitty, consisting of printed dresses, sweaters, leggings, blouses, tees, cardigans, totes and hobos, pajamas, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, scarves, winter hats, gloves, flip-flops, beach and bath towels, throw pillows, bath rugs, trash cans, luggage tags, and more. The Hello Kitty Forever collection just launched on November 16th and, already, many of the pieces are selling out online — especially the quirky costume jewelry co-designed by Onch Movement.

As with most of Forever 21’s inventory, many of the pieces in the collection cater to a tween , teen, and twenty-something crowd. The knit pillow cases, for instance, practically scream to be placed inside a middle- or high-schooler’s bedroom. Measuring 16″ in width and 16″ in length, the Hello Kitty Bow Pillowcase ($12.80 at Forever21.com), shown second above, makes for an excellent Christmas gift, as its cotton-and-knit material boasts a lavender backdrop, with a vertical row of three colored bows along its center. Similarly, the Chococat Knit Pillowcase ($12.80 at Forever21.com), shown fourth above, would add a bit of girlish charm to any bed, futon, armchair, or couch.

Not only is the Hello Kitty Forever collection a treat for fans of Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty, Chococat, and Badtz-Maru, but it’s also noteworthy in that it represents Forever 21’s first foray into the realm of home accessories and travel accessories. Aside from the pillowcases mentioned above, then, you’ll also find such dorm-ready wares as the Dotted Chococat Trash Can ($10.80 at Forever21.com) pictured below, a cylindrical waste basket in a sorbet orange shade with a whimsical print featuring the lovable Chococat in a sea of black polka dots; the Hello Kitty Abstract Towel ($12.80 at Forever21.com), pictured below, a 100% cotton towel measuring 52″ in length and 28″ in width and featuring diagonal stripes in varying widths covered with an outline of a cloud, polka dots meant to resemble rain drops, an outline of an umbrella, and Hello Kitty ‘s face with yellow oversize shades adding a quirkiness to the design; and the Scarf Print Toiletry Bag ($8 at Forever21.com), a zip-top train case with a Versace-esque scarf print and pops of snow leopard print.

Though most pieces do register as rather young — among them the 100% PVC, color-blocked Clear Hello Kitty Tote ($16.80 at Forever21.com), shown last above, which measures 15″  in height, 16.5″ in width, and 4″ in depth and which features a sketch of Hello Kitty donning some retro rad cat’s eye shades — most of the jewelry pieces can easily be worn by older Hello Kitty devotee fans since they have a cleverness and an edge that makes them transcend the junior’s category. The Hello Kitty & Onch Movement Splattered Pretzel Necklace ($6.80 at Forever21.com), shown at top, features Onch Movement’s signature twisted pretzel motif but cleverly sculpted so as to resemble an outline of Hello Kitty’s face, with a trademark bow angled above one ear. The black lacquered coating of the box chain and pretzel pendant add an urban sensibility to the necklace, which is augmented by its paint-splattered accents, making the necklace feel a bit more haute than high school.
