A-Morir Couture Sunglasses Keep You Looking Dead Cool

In Spanish, the phrase “a morir” would literally mean “to die” — but the couture sunglasses brand by that name doesn’t, of course, expect to send customers on a death march but, rather, to inspire an awestruck,  Rachel Zoe-ian “I dieeee!” response on anyone who lays eyes on their embellished, avant garde shades. Beloved by stage superstars like Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj, A-Morir specializes in couture shades that are less about blocking UV rays than they are about turning up the volume and hitting an entire new style octane level.

There’s a bevy of frame shape available: some are Jackie O-esque oversize and round, some have heart-shaped lenses, others have teardrop-shaped lenses, some feature large square lenses, and others feature a cat eye form. But what makes these shades so special is their embellishments. The A-Morir Alicia shades ($360 at A-Morir.com), pictured at top, feature silver-toned crystals all along the perimeter of the square-ish round frames and chains of fringe with tiny stones and mirror-like bars dangling from the top bar like an Art Deco take on a Cleopatra headdress. For a sweet 1950s feel, opt for the A-Morir Cass shades ($400 at A-Morir.com, which feature pastel pink, mint, lilac, and cream rosette accents all along the round frames. For a Lucy-Ball-goes-baroque look, meanwhile, there’s the A-Morir Lena ($320 at A-Morir.com), shown last above, a classic golden cat’s eye frame with clear crystals all along the lower area and, along the top rim, in a wing-like formation, two rows of round white pearls divided by a slim row of crystals.

Other to-die-for styles include my namesake style, the A-Morir Celia ($320 at A-Morir.com), pictured third above, black teardrop-shaped frames with golden chains of rhinestones covering their entire surface and faceted, teardrop-shaped iridescent stones fanning out along the top rim, clustering at the center and along the outer edges. The A-Morir Lux shades ($ at A-Morir.com), shown fourth above, feature clear Swarovski crystals along their top rim, and are further adorned with beveled silver-toned metal pieces featuring black cheetah-like spots  placed to resemble eyebrows so that wearers can tap into their inner Groucho Marx.

From flame motifs to lace overlays, dream catcher-like motifs, rosette details, studs, crystals, feathers, and colored enamel details, each A-Morir piece makes its own statement. Just check out the Dame Edna-flavored A-Morir Betty shades, which are punctuated with flame-shaped metal pieces (as shown first below), or the Siouxsie sunglasses (shown third below), which feature round frames adorned with black rosette details and purple-toned lenses covered in a lace-like fabric for a glam incognito look.

Even Elton John, with his extensive collection of beautifully bizarre shades, would lust after these beauties.
