What I Wore On Day 3 Of New York Fashion Week SS13

When I heard a tornado had touched down in Brooklyn and Queens yesterday, then looked out the window and saw a torrential downpour, I almost called it a day and dove head-first into my bed. But, just as I was about to pronounce a fashion washout, the sun came out, the skies cleared, and the rain came to a halt. And so I prepared for another day at Lincoln Center (and Milk Studios).  This time around, I wanted an outfit that was colorful and playful, sexy and glam with a few unexpected whimsical twists.

I’d been dying to wear my brand new fuchsia My Tribe Ruched Cap Sleeve Dress (purchased for $27 at one of Hautelook‘s Sunday Blowout Sale events), so I used that as a starting point. Immediately, I remembered a pair of Sonia Rykiel shoes I bought in 2001 (during an Ebay shopping addiction period that eventually required a bit of an intervention) since they are shiny, pointy, and a whole lot of disco-y fun. I took a close-up snap during my taxi ride from Lincoln Center to Milk Studios (check it out above), so hopefully you can see some of the details: from the conical heel to the ankle strap, the V-shaped vamp, and the flame-like black mesh panels along the sides of the shoe’s pointy front. Next, I accessorized with some major baubles: a wide, copper-colored leather Erickson Beamon for Target cuff bracelet (purchased for $59.99 in 2009, when the limited-edition collection hit Target stores) covered in round and teardrop-shaped stones in shades of azure, lime, magenta, light pink, turquoise, and orange; and Amrita Singh’s Camella Spring Earrings ($100 at AmritaSingh.com), 3″-long, gold-tone brass drop earrings featuring a teardrop-shaped magenta resin stone and, beneath it, a round violet resin stone. To add a bit of a flapper feel, I pulled my hair back and put on a ban.do headband featuring indigo-colored feathers that rest right against the side of the head, with a leaf-shaped pink sequin appliqué adding a hint of flash to the piece. I then worked with the purple-and-pink color scheme by opting for an amethyst-colored Isabella Fiore purse featuring ostrich-embossed leather juxtaposed against velvet-y calf hair.

To finish the “pretty in pink” look, I applied the Hourglass Cosmetics Femme Rouge Lipstick in Fever, a bright pink shade.
